The Unit is specialised in planning, managing, administrating and presenting financial statements of Community Programmes with direct and indirect management. It collaborates with bodies and enterprises in developing new project proposals and crosswise with other CIRPS Units, each time dealing with different issues. The Unit carries out national and international training programmes and other initiatives, such as the organisation of thematic seminars, and the promotion and implementation of research networks.

The Unit promotes and handles international initiatives and projects also dealing with cooperation in the following fields: training on sustainable development, improved processes of Public Administration and Universities in Developing Countries, socio-economic and gender-related issues.
The activity sectors are the following: training (national and international), capacity building, creation of networks to exchange knowledge, and projects for solution implementation.

The following Research Units are connected with the Thematic Section "ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGIES ".

The Unit was created to face the more and more pressing need - emerging from the results of most recent research work - to analyse the many topics concerning Biofuels. The Unit has wide experience in activities related to the planning and monitoring of systems for the production and transport of mainly renewable energy.

The Unit develops scientific research programmes for experimental application and enhancing of projects for more sustainable development in less favourable areas in Hydro Energy Self-Reliance and Individual related to the surrounding Environment. Research addresses technologies for water treatment, with special attention to machinery and plants for conversion and use of renewable Energy sources.
