The SPED of the Interuniversity Research Centre for Sustainable Development (CIRPS) was created in 2005 upon initiative of some women professors and researchers professionally engaged for years in international cooperation programmes and politically active in transnational women networks. The Section members believe that the achievement of the 3rd of the Millennium Development Goals (promoting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment) and, more generally, towards development sustainable models has to undergo a radical change of relationships between men and women.
The following Research Units are connected with the Thematic Section "ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGIES ".

The EnerED promotes and handles international and cooperation initiatives and projects for sustainable development. It was created to analyse and study the relations existing between Climate Change and Sustainable Development, with special attention to Developing Countries. The tools include research activities, capacity building and international cooperation.

The Unit scientific activity is referred to the "closed loops" scheme of natural resources and to the related definition of sustainable development (from the publication F. ORECCHINI, V. NASO - La Società No Oil, 2003): "Sustainable Development does not consume resources. It uses and re-uses them, with no limits".
